Ever since the release of Ridley Scott’s 2012 quasi-prequel to his classic horror flick Alien, audiences have been wondering how long they would have to wait for the Prometheus sequel. Since the film seemed to raise more questions than answers, and ended with Elizabeth Shaw embarking on a continuation of her search to find meaning in mankind’s origin, a second film would be logical. The waiting ended this week when it was announced that 20th Century Fox’s “Untitled Ridley Scott Project” would in fact be a Prometheus sequel with a March 4, 2016 release date.
The film is still officially in “Untitled” status since Fox may or may not use the Prometheus 2 title; however, according to The Wrap, it will feature even more elements of the species in the original Alien film than Prometheus did. Also, Michael Fassbender will reportedly return in multiple forms as the android David. That’s right, multiple Michael Fassbenders in the same film. No word on whether IMDb will credit him with an additional appearance for each iteration. Noomi Rapace will also reprise her role as archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw.
After working with Ridley Scott on a Blade Runner sequel, Green Lantern scribe Michael Green has been brought on rewrite the original script by Jack Paglen (Transcendence).
Production is expected to start in the fall after Scott puts the finishing touches on Exodus.
