Production on ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ to Resume in February

Production on the third installment of the Maze Runner series has been in murky water ever since this past March when the film’s star Dylan O’Brien suffered serious on-set injuries, shutting down production until further notice. O’Brien, falling from and getting hit by a moving vehicle while filming a stunt sequence, needed unspecified time to heal from facial fractures near his eye.

O’Brien is now ready to get back to work, and has even book a new starring role in American Assassin and has started filming the last season of his MTV series Teen Wolf in the interim. With giant YA studio production like this, it has been difficult to coordinate the schedules of everyone involved, but Fox has settled on a new production date starting in February. Series director Wes Ball will be returning with the crew and cast, including Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden, and Barry Pepper.

To accommodate the new schedule, Fox pushed the film’s release date from February 2017, to January 12, 2018.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure is the third novel in the young adult series by James Dashner and has been adapted by returning screenwriter T.S. Nowlin. The third film will see O’Brien’s character Thomas embark on a dangerous mission to find a cure to the deadly virus called “Flare”.
