Filming of the third installment in the blockbuster Jurassic World series, Jurassic World: Dominion, is set to resume on July 6 in the United Kingdom. Like most other major movie and television productions, due to the spread of the coronavirus, pre-production of the film ceased in March. The film was just four weeks into its 20-week production schedule.
Deadline first broke the news of Jurassic World: Dominion’s return to production, making it the first expected major studio film to continue shooting in the U.K. Deadline also reported the new safety measures Universal Studios was taking to keep the set and cast and crew at U.K. Pinewood Studios safe and healthy despite shooting during a pandemic. These new safety procedures include temperature checks, frequent coronavirus testing, extra cleanings, on-site doctors, 150 hand sanitizer stations, isolation booths, and COVID training for all cast and crew. The implementation of these new protocols is expected to cost around $5 million. In addition, anyone on set not currently acting in a scene is required to wear a mask.
While Universal begins pre-production work this week, the film’s lead stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are set to return to London in the coming days. Coming from the U.S., they will undergo a two-week quarantine prior to beginning any work, as mandated by the U.K. government.
The film will also star Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Justice Smith and BD Wong, and is directed by Colin Trevorrow, who directed the blockbuster series’ first two films.
Jurassic World: Dominion is currently set for a release on June 11, 2020 and was not the only U.K.-based Hollywood production halted due to the coronavirus. Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Warner Bros.’ The Batman and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3 are also looking to resume filming in the near future.
