Producers Guild of America Names ‘La La Land’ Best of 2016

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) handed out their annual prizes Saturday, honoring the best in entertainment – and the producers behind them – for 2016. In what was surely perceived as given, awards behemoth La La Land continued to show its dominance of the awards season, winning the top prize. The contemporary musical – which stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone – has been a powerhouse with critics, guilds as well as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (where this past week the film picked up a record tying 14 Oscar nominations and must be considered as the favorite to win Best Picture.)

The PGA Awards typically – though no always (last year’s The Big Short, for example) – tend to align with the eventual Best Picture winner at the Oscars. Aside from La La Land, the other film awards were bestowed to Zootopia (best produced animated feature) and O.J.: Made in America (best produced documentary feature.)
