Prepare for ‘Annihilation’ in Alex Garland’s New Trailer

The much-anticipated trailer to the film adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation has just been released! The movie, which is gets its material from Vandermeer’s Southern Reach books, deals with an exploration through terrifying and deserted area. Renowned filmmaker Alex Garland, known most recently for Ex Machina, a film involving artificial intelligence bots and an assessment of the nature of humanity, penned the script and directed the movie.

Natalie Portman will play the biologist, who also serves as the narrator of the first novel. However, her character is not the only person from her household to have embarked on the expedition: her husband, played by Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) went on his own journey earlier on, which ultimately led to his continually worsening state, a danger which the biologist will soon face too.

As an interesting casting note, Isaac is not the only alum from Ex Machina to join the film: Sonoya Mizuno (La La Land) will play a role in Annihilation as well.

The film will also star Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight);  Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin); and Tessa Thompson (Creed), who will also be playing Valkyrie in the upcoming Marvel movie, Thor: Ragnarok.

The trailer can be viewed below.

Annihilation will bring fear, excitement, and uncertainty into cinemas on February 23, 2018!
