Predator Franchise Continuing with ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Director Dan Trachtenberg

20th Century Studios has recruited 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to helm the fifth installment in the Predator franchise. Writer-producer Patrick Aison will pen the script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it looks like the new film won’t follow the developments made in Shane Black’s 2018 reboot, The PredatorBlack starred as an original cast member in the 1987 film that began the franchise. 

Black’s reboot was seen as a missed opportunity by many fans of the original. The film scored a 33% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with 289 reviews, and a 33% audience score with over 7,000 user ratings. The site’s critic consensus called it, “Chaotically hollow action.” 

Trachtenberg earned critical acclaim for his debut feature film 10 Cloverfield Lane back in 2016. The sci-fi thriller starred Scott Pilgrim’s Mary Elizabeth WinsteadThe Big Lebowski star John Goodman and Hush actor John Gallagher Jr. 

Since his breakout feature, Trachtenberg has directed the Black Mirror episode, The Playtest, and the premiere episode of the hit Amazon Prime series, The Boys. He’s currently working on the pilot for new NBC series, Langdon, which will follow the early adventures of famed Harvard symbologist, Robert Langdon. It’s also rumored that he’ll write the script for an upcoming Portal movie, based on the popular puzzle-platforming game from Valve.
