Potential ‘Mega Man’ Movie Adaptation Gains a Writer

It looks like Sonic the Hedgehog won’t be the only blue video game mascot getting a big Hollywood movie, because according to ScreenRant, 20th Century Fox has made a major development in the production of their potential Mega Man movie. For years the studio has been struggling to get a movie based on the Blue Bomber off the ground, and it looks like they’re finally making some progress. It was officially announced Wednesday that writer Mattson Tomlin will be writing the film’s script.

Tomlin, who is most notable for being one of the writers for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, celebrated this announcement with a funny tweet. According to Movie Web directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman were going to direct this Mega Man movie, but as of right now it’ unknown if they are still involved with the project.

The Mega Man (or Rock Man as it is known in Japan) video game franchise was created by Capcom back in the 1980’s. The series follows the super fighting robot Mega Man (also known as Rock) as he defends the world from the evil scientist Dr. Wily and his army of Robot Masters. Mega Man is usually aided on his quest by his creator Dr. Light (Dr. Right in Japan), his little robot sister Roll, his jet dog Rush, and occasionally his aloof older brother Protoman (or Blues). There have been several Japanese anime based on different Mega Man games and Mega Man has appeared a few North American cartoons like Captain N: The Game Master, the Ruby-Spears Mega Man, and Mega Man: Fully Charged. While there have been some fan films based off of the games, this movie would be the Blue Bombers first Hollywood feature film.

Hopefully we will get to see Mega Man fight for everlasting peace on the big screen.
