Post- ‘Invisible Man,’ Universal Secures Film Rights To Tracy Wolff’s YA Vampire Novel ‘Crave’

Universal has sunk its teeth into New York Times bestselling author Tracy Wolff‘s upcoming YA vampire novel Crave. Universal SVP of Production Jeyun Munford and Creative Executive Christine Sun will oversee the project. Wolff is the bestselling author of 64 novels across the fictional genre and a former English professor who now writes full-time. Crave, her latest novel, is available for sale on April 7 from Entangled Publishing, distributed by Macmillan in New York.

According to Entangled publisher Liz Pelletier, Crave was pitched as a paranormal fantasy with “vampires for a new generation”, all told in a “decidedly feminist perspective.” The story revolves around a human girl who finds herself in the midst of a conflict between many warring factions when she falls for a vampire prince, Jaxon Vega, who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. Still, she is intrigued by this mysterious vampire as something broken in him fits with what’s broken in her. However, this fate could end in death, as the young girl realizes that Jaxon has walled himself off for a reason. And because someone wants to awake the sleeping monster, she could easily be his next victim.

Universal has been involved in developing films for its cinematic monsters universe called Monsterverse. While entries like 2017’s Tom Cruise-led The Mummy were critical flops, Universal’s latest classic monster flick The Invisible Man has proved to be a financial successThe studio is currently developing an upcoming modern spin of Dracula, which will be the next film to join the Monsterverse. It is unclear whether Crave will have anything to do with Monsterverse, but its vampire characters could easily build upon Universal’s repertoire of classic monster stories.

As of now, no producers or writers are attached to adapt the material.
