Netflix’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is set to release exclusively in IMAX theaters on November 25th of this year, but recent reports say that the film is being blocked from both Cinemark and Regal screens.
Starring Timothy Olyphant and Brad Pitt, the film has the latter reprising his Oscar award-winning performance as the titular Cliff Booth. Pitt originally starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood…, a comedy-drama film set in 1969’s Los Angeles. Tarantino subsequently wrote the script for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, but David Fincher has helmed the project as director. Fincher, you may recognize, is the director behind such films as The Social Network, Gone Girl, and Fight Club (also starring Brad Pitt).
Interestingly, Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, another Netflix project, is promising the company’s widest theatrical release, said to continue for 45 days. This potentially shows a pattern or propensity from Netflix towards larger theatrical releases. Nevertheless, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is set to arrive on streaming not a month later on December 23rd, just in time for Christmas.
Due to Cinemark and Regal blocking the film from its IMAX screens, the theater chains have the opportunity to continue showing the upcoming Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping for a second weekend.
