Popular Japanese Anime ‘Gundam’ To Become Live-Action Film

The reports are in and according to The Hollywood Reporter, a popular anime series is in the works for the big screen. The original series, Gundam, which debuted in 1979 is set in the Universal Century. It follows an era in which people have emigrated to space colonies because of Earth’s growth population. Soon after, the people living in these colonies want their freedom, which ends up launching them into a war of independence against the people on earth.

The series has a large following as it has sold multi-billion dollars in both merchandise and licensing and even had a cameo in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

The film is being overseen by Legendary Films who is responsible for the upcoming adventure, Skyscraper, starring Dwayne Johnson as well as another live action adaptation of a popular Japanese animated series, Pokemon. Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith and has already wrapped up filming.
