‘Pieces of a Woman’ Star Vanessa Kirby Responds to Co-Star Shia LaBeouf Abuse Allegations: ‘I Stand with All Survivors of Abuse’

Late last year, singer and actress FKA Twigs filed lawsuit against ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf over alleged sexual battery and abuse. Now, LaBeouf’s co-star in the upcoming Netflix film Pieces of Woman, Vanessa Kirby, has issued a statement reacting to the abuse allegations made against him.

“I stand with all survivors of abuse and respect the courage of anyone who speaks their truth,” Kirby’s statement reads. “Regarding the recent news, I can’t comment on an ongoing legal case.”

FKA Twigs starred opposite LaBeouf in his autobiographical drama Honey Boy, directed by Alma Har’el. The lawsuit alleges that LaBeouf was physically and emotionally abusive with FKA Twigs and knowingly gave her sexually transmitted disease. In light of the allegations, Netflix removed LaBeouf’s name from the FYC awards campaign for his performance in Pieces of a Woman. In response to the allegations against him, LaBeouf sent an email to the New York Times.

“I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations,” read LaBeouf’s email. “I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”

Shortly after the abuse claims were made public, it was revealed that LaBeouf had been fired off of Olivia Wilde’s new film, Don’t Worry Darling, due to his behavior during pre-production, and had been replaced by Harry Styles.

Kirby is currently a favorite to land a Best Actress nomination for her performance in Pieces of a Woman, which will be available to stream on Netflix January 7.
