Paul Dano Joins Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz as The Riddler for ‘The Batman’

Paul Dano has been cast as DC Comics villain The Riddler in the highly-anticipated The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson. The news comes a day after one report that Jonah Hill stopped circling the role of either The Riddler or The Penguin and another casting Zoë Kravitz’s as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The Batman will also star Jeffrey Wright as Batman ally Commissioner Gordon.

You may recognize Dano more recently in his Emmy-nominated role in Showtime’s mini-series Escape at Dannemora, or his other credits which include 12 Years a Slave, Okja, and Wildlife, which Dano directed, co-wrote, and produced.Wildlife recently premiered at Sundance Film Festival and Cannes to critical acclaim.

Many online fans have rejoiced at the casting of Kravitz, in part because of her potential chemistry with Pattinson and coincidental familial relation with Aquaman‘s Jason Momoa. Most notably, however, the casting came after a comment directed towards Kravitz stating she was “too urban” for a role in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises. Kravitz will be taking over a coveted role that has been played by actresses such as Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry (kind of), and Anne Hathaway.

Warner Bros. has announced the film will be released in the United States on July 25, 2021 and filming can be expected to begin next year.
