Paramount Acquires Comedy, Set to Star Will Ferrell and Jason Momoa

Paramount has officially acquired the rights to a comedy pitch, set to star Will Ferrell and Jason Momoa. Although an official logline has not yet been released, the film is rumored to follow an aging television star, far past his prime (Ferrell), who is reunited with his previous TV show son (Momoa), who is now a huge television star.

Andy Mogel & Jarrad Paul (The Grinder, The D Train) will write the script. Gary Sanchez Productions, which produces most of Ferrell’s films and of which Ferrell is an executive, will produce. Nick Stoller will also  serve as a producer. He most recently directed comedy Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and animated film Storks, and also was co-creator of NBC’s The Carmichael Show. In the past Stoller has written screenplays for Yes Man, Get Him to the Greek, Zoolander 2, Sex Tape, The Five Year Engagement and The Muppets. He also directed Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Mogel and Paul both worked with Stoller as writers on Yes Man nearly a decade ago.

Ferrell, most well-known for his roles in Anchorman, Step Brothers, and Talladega Nights, as well as his 10 years on Saturday Night Live. He can next be seen in the comedy The House beside Amy Poehler, as well as the upcoming sequel to Daddy’s Home alongside Mark Wahlberg. Next year, he will join Step Brothers co-star John C. Reilly in Holmes and Watson, a comical take on the classic detective team.

Momoa is most well-known for his role of tv series Game of Thrones, but also for portraying Aquaman in Batman vs Superman, which he will reprise in the upcoming Justice League film as well as the upcoming stand-alone film Aquaman. He can also be seen in the film The Bad Batch alongside Suki Waterhouse, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carey, and Diego Luna, set to be released next month.

Stay tuned for more details on this project as they emerge.
