Oscars Almost Didn’t Count the Soundtrack From Pixar’s “Soul”

It’s almost impossible to believe that Oscars would overlook Pixar’s 2020 movie Soul from its soundtrack category. The soundtrack of Soul plays a huge role in the movie. Music is an essential element in the movie. A love of music drives the protagonist’s motives and music is tied into the movie’s themes.

However Comic Book Resources reported that the Academy almost disqualified Soul from the Academy Award category for Best Original Score on a technicality. The reason why Soul was going to be disqualified is because the category for Best Original Score requires a movie’s score to be composed of more than 60% of music that was originally written and created for the movie. Fortunately the Academy has made an exception for Soul, and now the movie could be in the running for a nomination.

The soundtrack of Soul was composed by musicians, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste. The movie’s new age songs that played during the more metaphysical scenes in the movie were composed by Reznor and Ross, and the movie’s famous jazz songs were composed by Batiste.

The soundtrack of Soul is already getting award recognition. The movie has already won several awards for its score, and Soul has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
