During the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct, held as a way for Nintendo to announce new games and other products/events to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda video game franchise, Nintendo teased some new details about the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie being produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment in collaboration with Nintendo.
The tease revealed little beyond the title, which is simply The Legend of Zelda. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Legend of Zelda franchise, claimed during the Nintendo Direct that the reason for the lack of a subtitle in the film’s official title will be made clear to fans when they see the movie. The Direct also revealed that further updates about the film will be available on the Nintendo Today mobile app.
Not much is known about this Legend of Zelda movie, other than some of its cast, which includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, Bo Bragason as Zelda, and Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf. In addition, Yvonne Strahovski, Lydia Peckham, and the late Sam Neill will play unspecified roles. Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is directing the film, from a script by T.S. Nowlin.
Legend of Zelda is set to release in theaters on April 3oth 2027.
