The first trailer for Artificial, Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming Sam Altman biopic starring Andrew Garfield as the OpenAI CEO, has been released. The teaser mainly shows Garfield’s Altman entering his home and what appears to be a secret bunker, while voiceover from Garfield’s Altman and several other characters plays. The most ominous and foreboding voiceover, said by Garfield’s Sam Altman, can be heard and consists of the following quotes:
We’re going to call it ChatGPT. We opened Pandora’s box together. The future is inevitable. Countries will fall. Industries are going to collapse. And we get to be the ones to shepherd people into this new world. I’m so excited to see it.
Artificial follows Sam Altman during the tumultuous period in OpenAI’s history in which Altman was fired and subsequently reinstated as CEO. The film is directed by Luca Guadagnino and is written by Simon Rich. In addition to Andrew Garfield, the film’s cast includes Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Mark Rylance, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman, Zosia Mamet, Cooper Hoffman, Chris O’Dowd, Cooper Koch, and Billie Lourd. Amazon MGM Studios originally planned to release the film but dropped it shortly after the company announced a $50 billion partnership and investment deal with OpenAI. The studio then announced it was shopping the film to other distributors, saying it would “be better served if it were released by a different studio.” Neon then bought the distribution rights and will now release it.
Artificial will have its world premiere at this year’s 2026 New York Film Festival on Oct. 5. The film will then be theatrically released by Neon on Dec. 25. The official teaser can be viewed below:
