Newcomer Blu Hunt Joins the Cast of ‘New Mutants’ as Mirage

The latest newcomer to 20th Century Fox’s New Mutants film has been found, thanks to an international casting call: Blu Hunt. She’s said to be playing Danielle Moonstar, also known as Mirage. The name is apt, as the character uses her telepathic powers in order to construct illusions. She will function as part of a team within the X-Men universe, known as the New Mutants, based on Marvel comics beginning in 1982. For those who are fans of the character Deadpool (depicted in film by Ryan Reynolds), his first appearance was in the New Mutants comics; however, he was not a team member there but a villain.

While relatively fresh to the acting world, Hunt gained experience through a role in the CW television show, The Originals. She played a spirit known as The Hollow. Hunt will be joining a larger cast of the film, which is described as a “thriller.” She will act alongside Rosario Dawson (Sin City), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), and Henry Zaga (Thirteen Reasons Why).

While shooting will most likely not officially begin until this July, the studio is aiming to release the film in 2018. It will be directed by Josh Boone.
