Amanda Seyfried Returns for ‘Mamma Mia’ Sequel

According to Deadline, Amanda Seyfried (The Last Word) has signed the dotted line and will reprise her role as Meryl Streep’s daughter in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!; Universal’s 2008 hit musical Mamma Mia! had grosses to the tune of $600 million globally, so it’s no wonder sequel is coming together. Original cast members Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins), Pierce Brosnan (TV’s The Son), and Colin Firth (Bridget Jones’s Baby) have been confirmed to return.

Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) will write and direct. Mamma Mia! producers Judy Craymer of Littlestar and Gary Goetzman of Playtone are returning for the sequel. ABBA’s Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus Bjorn Ulva are on board as well to provide music and lyrics, and will executive produce.

Seyfried recently starred opposite Shirley MacLaine in The Last Word. She is currently filming Gringo starring Charlize Theron (The Fate of the Furious) and Joel Edgerton (Loving). Two other films are currently in post-production – Paul Schrader’s drama First Reformed with Ethan Hawke (The Magnificent Seven), and Dito Montiel’s comedy The Clapper with Ed Helms (Love the Coopers).

A release date has been set for July 20, 2018 for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!
