New Trailer Drops for Ryan Reynolds Action Comedy ‘Free Guy’

Even with many films getting their release dates pushed to next year, Free Guy has doubled down on hitting screens in 2020. Ryan Reynolds new sci-fi action comedy originally was meant to come out on July 3 of this year but got delayed to the now solidified release date of December 11.

The film stars Reynolds as a non-playable character within a video game who becomes self-aware and decides to reject his assigned role by making himself the hero. The official synopsis describes the fictional video game as a cross between Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite. The film also stars Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, Stranger Things Joe Keery, Get Out star Lil Rey Howery, and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.

“It’s a cross between Grand Theft Auto and The Truman Show,” said Free Guy’s composer Cristopher Beck in a recent interview with SYFY. “I’m finding it to be one of the biggest musical challenges of my career.”

Director Shawn Levy previously directed all three films in the Night at the Museum franchise and eight episodes of Stranger Things. Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn collaborated to write the screenplay. Lieberman recently wrote the animated film Scoob! From earlier this year, and Penn helped as writer for The Avengers and Ready Player One.
