New Trailer Drops for Coens’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’

The Coen Brothers’ newest film trades the rugged Western setting of True Grit for the cold streets of 1960’s New York. Oscar Isaac stars as Llewyn Davis, a folk singer who is determined to brave the odds of the Greenwich Village folk scene in his quest to make it as a musician, and we’ve been given our first peek at the film with it’s first full-length trailer, which was released yesterday:

Isaac performed his music live for the film, as did the supporting cast (which includes Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake). The music was produced by T-Bone Burnett, who also collaborated with the Coen Brothers on their 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? While the film is not a musical, the music serves as much more than a soundtrack. Llewyn Davis’s soulful lyrics are juxtaposed with the harsh realities of the world around him, including problems he has brought upon himself.

Critics were impressed at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but audiences will have to wait a few more months to catch this one. Inside Llewyn Davis is scheduled for a December 6 release and is sure to be a serious contender come awards season.
