‘New Mutants’ Promises LGBT Main Characters and Romance

As we enter a new decades movie goers are starting to expect their films to provide more diversity and representation of minority groups. And while popular block buster movies are slowly starting to become more racially diverse in their casts, super hero movies are still struggling to catch up.

Super hero movies have given some exposure to queer characters in the past. Disney’s Avengers: Endgame did feature an openly gay character, but he was only very minor character and many critics and fans were pretty disappointed at Marvel for making a background character their first openly gay character. However people were much more pleased with how Fox’s Deadpool 2 handled representation. In Deadpool 2 it was revealed that supporting heroine Negasonic Teenage Warhead and was dating Yukio.

Now Screen Rant has just reported that the upcoming super hero movie New Mutants will feature another same sex romantic relationship. The couple will consist of Moonstar or Mirage, Native American mutant with the power to create illusions, and Wolfsbane, a Scottish mutant who can turn into a wolf. Moonstar is being played by Blu Hunt, and Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones fame will have the role of Wolfsbane. The relationship between Moonstar and Wolfsbane was revealed in early 2019.

New Mutants is being directed by Josh Boone and is being released by Fox. The movie’s release date has been pushed back several times, but is now on track to release in April 2020.
