Insurgent, the second installment in the Divergent trilogy, has released a featurette providing fans with an in depth look into the new film, courtesy of Yahoo! Films. The footage features lead actress Shailene Woodley, along with several other cast members– Theo James (Underworld: Awakening), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class), Octavia Spencer (The Help), Mekhi Phifer (8 Mile), and Kate Winslet (The Reader)– as they promise audiences a non-stop action experience (and reveal a few spoilers for those who have not read the books).
According to director Robert Schwentke (RED), Divergent created the world in which Tris (Woodley) exists, and Insurgent is “going to tear that up.” The Erudite and their leader Jeanine (Winslet) are now the clear antagonists for which Tris and company must attempt to form new alliances against, including the Amity and their leader Joanna (Spencer), as well as the factionless and their leader Evelyn (Naomi Watts, The Impossible).
Another notable reveal in the featurette is Tris’s eventual transformation into the fully-fledged, cropped-haired leader of the rebellion against the Erudite and in defense of freedom and individuality– in other words, divergence.
In general Insurgent has gone to another level of stunts and SFX in order to realize Tris’ rise. As James puts it, this is “a very ambitious action movie”– an ambition that will hopefully pay off for fans.
Insurgent hits theaters on March 20, 2015.
