In November 2022, it was announced that a new movie in the ‘Alien’ franchise was coming to the streaming service Hulu. We now have more information regarding the film from a press release 20th Century Studios released. The film begins production in Budapest on March 9.
The film stars Cailee Spaeny, known for her work in Pacific Rim Uprising (2018) and How It Ends (2021). It also stars David Johnson (“Industry”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“Rosaline”), Spike Fearn (“The Batman”), and Aileen Wu (“Away From Home”).
Fede Alvarez, director of Evil Dead (2013, Don’t Breathe (2016), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), will be directing the film based on a screenplay he wrote with Rodo Sayagues.
The original director of Alien (1979), Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss will be producing under Scott Free Productions, with Brent O’Connor, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Tom Moran as executive producers.
The press release states, “a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
This is an outlier in the Alien franchise, as previous installments largely featured adults as the protagonists. This will be the 9th installment in the Alien franchise. The working title for the film is Alien: Romulus. A release date has not yet been announced.
