Netflix Is Making An Animated Gorillaz Movie

Created in the 90’s by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the Gorillaz are an animated British band. Over the past few decades the Gorillaz have released several albums and they have appeared in many animated music videos. The band’s latest album, Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez, was just released this month and it is already receiving critical acclaim.

Now according to Movie Web the band will be starring in an animated movie. The streaming service Netflix will be collaborating with the creators on this project. Spin reported that during an interview with Radio.com Albarn revealed that they plan on making the movie during the production of Song Machine: Season Two. Currently details about the movie are scarce, but Albarn promises that the movie will be rather abstract.

This is not the Gorillaz first attempt at making a movie. The band tried to create a movie called Celebrity Harvest in 2003, but the project fell apart. However in 2003 the animated movie Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem was released. That movie was a feature length music video for Daft Punk’s album, Discovery, and it was well received by fans and critics. So it is possible for a band to make a successful animated movie.
