Netflix Acquires Martha Stewart Documentary From Oscar-Nominated Director R.J. Cutler

Netflix has won the rights to the documentary on media tycoon Martha Stewart’s life and times that Oscar-nominated director R.J. Cutler directed. According to Variety, Netflix closed the transaction late last week. Variety was the first to learn about the deal.

The details about the untitled Martha Stewart doc are still unclear. Still, the film will most likely follow Stewart from her childhood in Jersey City as a babysitter to legendary New York Yankee players Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra. It has been rumored that some of her first-ever party-planning gigs for their children. She went from teen model to the ultimate media powerhouse. The vast expansion of her Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia empire, as well as her 2004 prison sentence for insider trading, would undoubtedly be discussed in the documentary.

Stewart made an amazing recovery despite the international spotlight of her insider trading conviction. A collection of novels, TV shows, universal consumer products licensing, and a witty Instagram presence keep the 79-year-old at the top of pop culture and the Fortune 500 list. Her current net worth is estimated to be about $400 million, reportedly.

Cutler recently directed the 2020 film Belushi and Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry. His debut film as a producer, The War Room, was nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The doc followed the aftermath of Bill Clinton’s historic presidential campaign.

The release date for the unnamed Martha Stewart documentary is unknown.
