‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Director Adam Wingard on Board to Direct Comic Adaptation ‘Hardcore’ at Universal

Adam Wingard, who just directed the hugely successful Godzilla vs. Kong, has agreed to direct the adaptation of comic Hardcore for Universal Pictures. The comic book series comes from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri. Hardcore is described as an action/sci-fi thriller that follows a soldier on his journey to save the world while trying to keep his hands from getting dirty trying to save the said world.

Volume 1 of the comic series was written by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Alessandro Vitti, while Volume 2 was written by Brandon Thomas and Francis Portela. Wingard will collaborate with up-and-coming writer Will Simmons, who wrote the Sleepy Hollow reboots and Internal Affairs at Paramount to adapt Kirkman’s original outline.

The monster clash, Godzilla vs. Kong, which debuted in theaters on March 31 while simultaneously debuting on HBO Max, has surpassed $400 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing title of the pandemic. The film was such a success that Wingard has been tapped to helm another movie in that MonsterVerse. Wingard made his directorial debut with 2011’s horror/thriller You’re Next and has since directed 2014’s thriller The Guest, 2016’s Blair Witch, and Netflix’s 2017 horror Death Note.

Wingard is also set to direct the remake of Paramount’s 1997 thriller Face/Off and the revival of the 1980’s animated series Thundercats for Warner Bros.

I want to write something outside the normal, something no one would think to write about in a unique way. It also shows how far I am willing to go to produce something amazing that will get more readers interested in the world of Journalism. I am on my way to making a professional life for myself.
