Music Biopic, ‘Rocketman’, to Debut at Cannes Film Festival

The Elton John biopic, Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton (Kingsman franchise), will have a special screening at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, according to Deadline. Rocket Pictures and MARV Films stated that they “are incredibly honoured and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labour of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film.”

Dexter Fletcher is the director of the film. Fletcher was recently associated with directing Oscar-winning musical biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. He replaced Bryan Singer after he was fired from the project. Elton John is also producing the film himself which will add personal insight to the film’s story as a whole.

It is also interesting to consider that Cannes was the location where the famed singer filmed the music video for his song, “I’m Still Standing”, featuring the notable landscape and architecture of the French city. Contenders for the rest of the Film Festival will be revealed April 18.
