Are you ready to go back to the movies? Well, AMC is ready is you, and to welcome you back, AMC is charging just 15 cents for movie tickets on its reopening day. The price of a movie ticket hasn’t been this cheap since a hundred years ago, which, incidentally, is how old the company is turning this very year.
Note, this special deal doesn’t apply to new releases (probably due to AMC’s recent deal with Universal). Rather, AMC will be doing special showings of older blockbuster films like The Empire Strikes Back and Back to the Future. However, if you miss out on opening day, ticket prices will still be fairly low, at five dollars a pop.
AMC is reopening 100 locations on August 20, part of its overall plan to reopen two thirds of their 600 locations by September 3rd, in time for the release of the much anticipated Christopher Nolan-directed Tenet. This first burst of reopenings includes locations in Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis, Miami, and other places. AMC plans to implement safety precautions to limit the spread of germs, such as new cleaning measures, limited capacity seating, and requiring both its employees and patrons to wear masks.
“We are thrilled to once again open our doors to American moviegoers who are looking for an opportunity to get out of their houses and apartments and escape into the magic of the movies,” said AMC CEO Adam Aron in a statement on Thursday.
