With any major studio, they tend to have a fanfare of sorts that often become just as memorable as the film you’re about the watch. Famous streaming service company Netflix has decided to take advantage of having a theme music by extending their classic “Ta-Dum” sound you’d hear when starting the application to something more theatrical. Netflix took advantage of this opportunity by having the Academy Award Winning Composer of The Lion King and Inception to help create a new theme for them. As Hans Zimmer made a new theatrical version of the “Ta-Dum” sound for Netflix.
This was revealed during Twenty Thousand Hertz podcast where Zimmer appeared as a guest on the show. This decision was made to extend the theme due to many thinking that for more high profile films like The Irishman or Marriage Story, the basic Netflix “Ta-Dum” tone seemed a bit too short for the kind of films Netflix has to offer. Netflix wanted to get a sound that was more cinematic and they couldn’t have picked a better composer than Hans Zimmer. Netflix’s Brand Design Lead, Tanya Kumar stated that there were six or seven various compositions for this new theme. It was eventually was narrowed down to three until it was concluded that the remastered sound would be the one they inevitably chose
The sound bite might be a short 16 second fanfare but it still set up for an epic movie watching experience. When theaters are able to open up and Netflix has another theatrical release on their hands, this fanfare will serve as the perfect one to set up for many viewers watching the Netflix’s newest offering
