‘Mortal Kombat’ Pushes its Release Date Once Again

Movie release dates getting pushed is pretty normal during the Covid-19 pandemic. Just two and a half weeks ago, the long-awaited Mortal Kombat had confirmed release date of April 16th, 2021. Now, it seems that that release date has been pushed yet again. First reported by Variety, it has been officially confirmed that Mortal Kombat has pushed its release date back by a week, and now is set to be released on April 23rd, 2021. According to Polygon, the reasoning behind the delay has to do with the short amount of time between the release of Godzilla vs. Kong and Mortal Kombat

Although the film’s release date has been pushed back, it’s only a week-long delay, which is better compared to the year-long delays that we’ve seen over the past year. Either way, the Simon Mcquoid film is definetly on its way. It got its first full trailer in February, showcasing an original character Cole Young, alongside original characters Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax, and Sonya Blade. Warner Brothers had made the decision to bring all of its films to HBO Max and theaters simultaneously, but the Mortal Kombat seems to show that the studio is still hoping for impressive in-person ticket sales. Whichever way people are planning on seeing the film, Mortal Kombat will be released on both HBO Max and theaters April 23rd.
