While the holiday season is underway, the box office won’t soon be shaking the remnants of its Thanksgiving offerings. Amidst other openings this weekend, Moana 2 continues to reign supreme when it comes to highest earnings.
Moana 2 finds the titular character, Moana, back on the open ocean once again, joined once more by Maui, and now a group of friends. Their destination is a course that’ll send them into uncovering the mysteries of their very own ancestors.
After its colossal Thanksgiving opening, which led to several records being broken as well, the sequel is eyeing roughly $51 million to add to its total. Its world total is already at $465 million, after a fruitful $11 million Friday.
Variety noted that the film, which was originally intended as a Disney+ exclusive, is on course to break a domestic total of $300 million by the end of the weekend, keeping its success parallel to that of the first film.
In another repeat of last weekend, close behind Moana 2 is Wicked. While its second weekend gave it an astounding $118 million, it’s looking to secure just shy of $33 million come the close of the weekend.
Gladiator II continues to entertain its audience as well. The Ridley Scott-helmed sequel is looking to earn $13 million in its third weekend. It’s already close to passing $130 million in its domestic total, and will surpass the mark of $340 million worldwide as well.
Red One brings up fourth place this weekend, with a $7 million weekend, followed by Pushpa: The Rule- Part 2, with $5.5 million.
