Missy Elliott, Minnie Driver, John Mulaney and More Join the Cast of ‘Cinderella’

Entering production quietly on Thursday, Sony officially announced the full cast of Kay Cannon’s new reimagining of Cinderella which will star Camila Cabello as the titular character. Joining her will be Oscar-nominated actress and Golden Globe winner Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice, and Grammy Award-winning rapper and singer Missy Elliott as the Town Crier, according to Deadline.

Next to the three actresses, the mice will be portrayed by a comedy trio consisting of John Mulaney, Romesh Ranganathan, and James Corden. The new acquisitions join an all-star cast that includes Billy Porter, Pierce Brosnan, Idina Menzel, Nicholas Galitzine, Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer. Sony is eyeing the film to be released on February 5, 2021. Much like other adaptations of the Cinderella property, the film is intended to be a musical comedy that revamps traditional aspects of the Cinderella tale, in which the titular character is a ambitious woman willing to take on the world, and yet find more on top of what she seeks.

Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh will be producing the film, with Louise Rosner acting as its executive producer. Elliott is a five-time Grammy Award-winning rapper and singer best known for her hit singles, “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It.”
