Milly Alcock Cast As Lead In ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl in the upcoming DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Deadline confirms that Alcock beat out other up-and-coming actresses Meg Donelly, known for American Housewife and Disney’s Zombies franchise, as well as CODA’s Emilia Jones for the role as the Woman of Tomorrow. James Gunn, creative director at DC Studios, confirmed the casting on Instagram.

DC Comics’ President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee commented on Gunn’s post sharing that it is “Beautiful seeing it all come together!” Gunn replied, “I have to show you the [screen] test at some point, you’re gonna freak out.”

Alcock also shared her excitement on her own Instagram page.

The new film is set to be a faithful adaptation of writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely’s 2022 Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book series. The acclaimed series highlighted the difference between Supergirl and her famous cousin Superman. Gunn, who is also writing and directing the upcoming Superman: Legacy, which is set to begin a new DC Universe that Supergirl will also be a part of, emphasized this distinction during the announcement of Woman of Tomorrow.

Gunn said “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

Deadline confirms that Alcock’s Supergirl is set to debut in another DC Studios project before the release of Woman of Tomorrow. Since Supergirl seems to be the next furthest DC Studios project in production, with Ana Nogueira currently penning the screenplay, it seems safe to assume that Alcock will appear in Superman: Legacy when it releases on July 11, 2025.
