Sandra Milo Star Of ‘8 1/2’ Dies At 90

Actress Sandra Milo passed away at the age of 90 on Monday. The Italian actress, known for Juliet of the Spirits and 8 ½, passed away in her house in Rome. Her passing was announced on Milo’s Instagram page by her children Debora, Azzurra and Ciro. Milo passed away in her sleep at 8:25 in the morning. The account has reposted countless tributes to the late actress on their story. 

The translated statement reads “Today at 8:25 in the morning our mother passed away. She left us peacefully, falling asleep in her bed, as she had expressly requested, surrounded by our love and that of her beloved dogs Jim and Lady. We ask you to respect our immense pain and to pray for her soul, sending her a thought of light. We sincerely thank our father Ottavio de Lolllis, the lawyer Bruno della Ragione, Maurizio Pennesi, Alberto Matano, Cristina Morea, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Claudio and Pino Insegno, Franco Brel, Angelo Genovese, Franco Lattanzi and his wife Rita, Enrico Pola, Federica Di Giacomo, Lorenzo Picone, Luigi Alesi, Angelo De Biasio, Carlotta and Gabriele Malaguti, Marina and Tullio, Maricla Verdesca, Simona Ballarino. And if we have forgotten anyone we apologize in advance 💔”

Sandra Milo made her cinematic debut in the Italian comedy film Lo Scapolo in 1955 alongside Alberto Sordi. She made many TV and film appearances over her extensive career, but is perhaps best known for her role as Carla in 8 ½. She won the David di Donatello Lifetime Achievement award in 2021, celebrating her illustrious career.

Variety published Lucia Borgonzoni, the Italian deputy culture minister’s statement on Sanda Milo’s passing. Borgonzoni celebrated Milio as a “great, talented artist with an overwhelming charisma” and a “muse of great directors such as Federico Fellini who won the hearts of millions of Italians.”
