Millie Bobby Brown Lines Up Her Novel Adaptation For The Big Screen

Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes in Netflix's 'Enola Holmes' (2020)

It looks like Millie Bobby Brown is ready to take her bestselling novel Nineteen Steps to the next level.

After recently dropping out of the Netflix project Perfect, a story on Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, over opposition to the film, Brown has snagged Tom Hooper to direct her project. Hooper isn’t the only powerhouse joining Brown’s project. Anthony McCarten and Jonathon Eirich have also hopped on, as well as Brown’s husband, Jake Bongiovi, and Bobby Brown to produce for PMCA.

Brown’s novel Nineteen Steps is a new direction for her. While we often see the actress onscreen for Netflix Originals, she seems nothing less than eager to take on this new journey. Nineteen Steps is a World War II novel that shows the perspective of the time through the stories of Brown’s grandmother. With Kathleen McGurl as a cowriter, they tell the story of 18-year-old Nellie Morris, who lives in East London during the time of WWII. While highlighting the hardships of a young girl coming of age during wartime, the story hones in on the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster, one of the worst civilian disasters in the UK that took place in her neighborhood.

Brown is never just working on one singular project, as she is set to be working on Netflix’s Just Picture it and Enola Holmes 3 as well.
