According to Variety, Max Greenfield (Hello, My Name is Doris) is in talks to join the cast of Destin Daniel Cretton’s The Glass Castle. Lionsgate’s adaptation of Jeannette Walls’ best-selling memoir stars Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson (Room) – re-teaming with Cretton from their 2013 indie Short Term 12. Also on board are two-time Academy Award nominees Naomi Watts (Divergent series) and Woody Harrelson (Triple 9).
The story follows Jeannette (Larson), a successful woman raised in a nomadic nonconformist family. Watts will play her eccentric “excitement addict” mother and Harrelson will play her alcoholic father. Greenfield would play Jeannette’s loyal but distant husband who tries to help her cope with her parents’ unexpected visit. Marti Noxon, Cretton, and Andrew Lanham are adapting the screenplay. Gill Netter will produce.
Greenfield is known as the comedic roommate Schmidt on TV’s New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel (Rock the Kasbah). He can currently be seen on the big screen opposite two-time Academy Award winner Sally Field (Lincoln) in Hello, My Name is Doris. Greenfield is producing Fist Fight starring Charlie Day (Vacation) and Ice Cube (Ride Along 2) as two teachers who get into an after-school fight. The Richie Keen-helmed comedy is Greenfield’s own original pitch which New Line acquired; the feature bows on February 17th.
The Glass Castle will start shooting in June in Montreal.
