Matt Reeves Directing New Heist Movie

Director Matt Reeves

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has signed on to direct new heist movie according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, which hasn’t been titled yet, is described as being in the vein of Heat and Dog Day Afternoon.

The idea was originally developed by Matt Charman, the writer behind the upcoming Cold War thriller that’s being directed by Steven Spielberg. The idea apparently caught fire once Reeves got a hold of it. Along with directing Apes, Reeves is known for directing Cloverfield (2008) and Let Me In (2010). The film will start shooting after production wraps on the next Apes film. Reeves appears to be the new hot director for action blockbusters since Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was a financial and critical success last summer.

Actor Tobey Maguire will produce the film with Reeves under his production company Maguire’s Materials, which is also behind The Fifth Wave and Z for ZachariahThe new film is set to release summer 2016.
