Matt Reeves, director of the upcoming Robert Pattinson-led Batman reboot The Batman, took to Twitter yesterday to announce the last day of production. The film is scheduled to release in nearly a year on March 4, 2022.
“#LastDay #TheBatman cc: @GreigfraserD,” tweeted the director, shouting out his director of photography. Later, Jeffrey Wright, who’s starring in the film as Gotham Police Commissioner James Gordon, tweeted fan art of his character with a caption seemingly confirming that his work on the film had come to an end.
“Gordon out,” Wright tweeted. “…for now. One year exactly after the shutdown. Some ride.” He finished off the tweet with a bat emoji and a shoutout to the artist of the fan art.
The Batman was one of the highest-profile films that faced production complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A year ago the film shut down production for 5 and a half months before resuming again in September. Filming was delayed for another few weeks when it was reported that Pattinson had contracted COVID-19. The film was originally supposed to hit theaters October 1, 2021.
Alongside Pattinson and Wright stars Colin Farrell, Zoe Kravitz, Andy Serkis, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Barry Keoghan, and Peter Sarsgaard. Joe Barton is also working on prequel series to the film that’s currently in development from HBO Max.
