Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has addressed the future of lead actor Tom Holland and the Spider-Man franchise following the record-breaking theatrical debut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking in an interview with Variety, Feige confirmed that while active plans remain in place to continue Holland’s tenure as the iconic webslinger, the actor and co-star Zendaya will first take an extended hiatus following a multi-city promotional campaign. Feige noted that there are “always plans” for future installments involving Holland, adding that the lead stars intend to take a well-earned break after completing global publicity obligations for both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s historical epic The Odyssey.
The statement follows a historic opening weekend for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The feature generated $360 million domestically and $932 million globally during its initial five-day box office run, surpassing the previous opening weekend record established by 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The milestone marks a major commercial turn for Marvel Studios’ 38th feature film entry following a mixed box office period in recent years.
Holland previously discussed long-term creative planning for the franchise, noting during a podcast appearance that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures had outlined prospective character trajectories following 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland indicated that while narrative frameworks remain flexible, ongoing discussions continue to address the evolution of Peter Parker and the eventual transition of the hero’s mantle to future characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Co-starring Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently playing in theaters worldwide. Marvel Studios has not announced an official production timeline or release date for the next standalone Spider-Man feature.
