Martin Scorsese To Be Honored At Montclair Film Festival

Filmmaker Martin Scorsese, acclaimed director of countless features, will be honored at next month’s Montclair Film Festival and participate in an on-stage interview with Stephen Colbert. The tribute for Scorsese comes ahead of his newest feature, Killers Of The Flower Moon, which will be released on October 20th from Apple and Paramount.

Killers is the 27th narrative film that Scorsese has helmed since his start in 1967 with Who’s That Knocking At My Door. Since then, he’s done other films that continue to be widely recognized and loved, including Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, and Raging Bull, among many others.

Stephen Colbert is a massive festival patron, even hailing from Montclair himself. His wife, Evie Colbert, is even the festival president, and Stephen frequently sits down with notable figures as part of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Proceeds from the talk with Scorsese will benefit Montclair Film in multiple facets, thanks to the organization being non-profit.

Montclair was and still is a Northeast festival but is looking to more ambitious horizons, including changing when it takes place and extending the length. This year, the festival will run from October 20th to the 29th.

“Over the course of his career as a filmmaker, preservation advocate, and film historian, Martin Scorsese has made an unparalleled impact on the art of cinema,” co-head and Artistic Director of Montclair Film, Tom Hall, had to say about the revered director. “To honor him with our festival’s 2023 Filmmaker Tribute is an absolute thrill, and we look forward to a delightful, celebratory evening of stories and conversation hosted by Stephen Colbert.”
