Maribel Verdu Joins ‘The Flash’, Billy Crudup Departs From Film

News broke Friday that the actor who was cast as Barry Allen’s father, Billy Crudup has departed from his role in DC’s The Flash movie because of scheduling conflicts for the second season of Apple’s The Morning Show.

Sad as that news may be, there is a flipside. News also broke on Friday that even though Barry Allen is losing a father, he will be gaining a mother instead. Maribel Verdú has been cast in The Flash movie as Barry Allen’s mother. Verdú’s character is expected to play an essential part in the upcoming film from Warner Bros.

The film’s plot is still being kept on hush hush but reportedly involves the movie version of the TV series The Flash season three episode one: Flashpoint, in which Allen goes back in time to prevent his mother from getting murdered. Alternate versions of Batman are making a cameo with Michael Keaton taking on the role of Batman that he once played in the 1980s Warner Bros. films and Ben Affleck playing Batman from his time putting on the suit as the Caped Crusader.

Verdú starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s coming-of-age drama Y Tu Mama Tambien and Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy film Pan’s Labyrinth.

Filming is expected to begin in 2021 and is slated to be released in theaters on Nov. 4, 2022.
