Mahershala Ali Set Star in Apple TV+ Film ‘Swan Song’

Following his two year run with the Academy Awards, Mahershala Ali is back to the film set and slated to star in Benjamin Cleary’s upcoming drama Swan Song, which will be released on Apple TV+ according to The Hollywood ReporterSwan Song will entering production this spring and while it will be available on Apple TV+ as an original film, the feature will also receive a theatrical release according to the studio.

Adam Shulman (Defending Jacob) and Jacob Perlin, who was involved with The Amazing Johnathan Documentary, will serve as producers for Anonymous Content. Ali will also act as a producer on Swan Song.Details about the film’s plot are few and far. According to Apple, Swan Song is reportedly labeled as “genre-bending” and “layered.” With a premise set in the approaching future, the drama examines individual sacrifice and the extent one will go for love.

Ali earned two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor in Moonlight and Green Book no less than two years apart from each other. Ali will playing Marvel superhero Blade in an upcoming yet-to-be filmed project for Marvel Studios, his second Marvel role after playing Cottonmouth on the Netflix Luke Cage show. Cleary previously won an Oscar for his work on the live-action short Stutterer released in 2015, but Swan Song will mark his feature directorial debut.
