Madonna Working On A Screenplay With ‘Juno’ Writer Diablo Cody

Madonna has unveiled her upcoming project that doesn’t involve working on her music albums. This week we’ve learned that she is currently working on screenplay with Juno writer Diablo Cody.

The famous American pop singer took to Instagram to announce the news. On Friday, she posted to the social media platform a short video, filmed in black and white captioned: “When you’re stuck in a house with multiple injuries what do you do? Write a screenplay with Diablo Cody about…?” with series of film and music-related emojis.

In the video, Madonna and Cody are seen working together on a couch, with Cody typing on a laptop in front of a table full of dated notebooks. As they’re discussing details about what to put next in the script, Madonna asks Cody, “When the music starts, what’s the song? All these details are important. They’re important.”

The actual screenplay has not been revealed yet, so plot details are still kept a secret. However, during the video, Madonna describes to Cody her iconic Jean Paul Gaultier cone-bra costume from the 1990 “Blond Ambition” tour. Cody asks if “the garters were over the suit bottoms, right?” with Madonna replying “Yeah, straight pin-striped pants sit beneath the corset, it’s cut high-waisted on the leg, the garters come down here, cone bra zipped up the front and then the double-breasted suit coat goes over it.” This particular dialogue led some fans to theorize that the collaborators are writing a biopic of Madonna’s famous musical career.

Along with this mysterious, untitled, screenplay, Madonna has appeared on the big screen in 17 film over the course of her career, including the 1991 tour documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare. She even has ventured into directing, with two projects recently: Filth and Wisdom in 2008 and 2011’s W.E.

Cody was an Oscar winner for best original screenplay for Juno in 2007. Her credits include writing and producing 2009’s Jennifer’s Body, Young Adult in 2011, Ricki and the Flash in 2015 and Tully in 2018, her most recent project as of now.
