‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘Hobbit’ Films Get 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Release Treatment

Fans of the legendary fantasy movies Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Hobbit Trilogy from director Peter Jackson will soon see it for the first time in 4K ultra-high-definition Blu-Ray on December 1st.

The news was announced by Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin who played Samwise Gamgee in the famous trilogy.

“I was privileged to play Samwise Gamgee in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, and I’m excited today to announce that Warner Bros. will be releasing the ‘Hobbit’ Trilogy and the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy on 4K UHD on December 1st for the first time,” he said in a video on Wednesday. “Now, because it’s in 4K UHD, you know it’s going to be the most incredible home-viewing experience possible.”

The Lord of the Rings films is by far some of the most successful and popular fantasy movies of all time. The trilogy earned nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office, making the trilogy one of cinema’s highest-grossing franchise ever. The films even won 17 Academy Awards out of 30 nominations, which is incredible in itself.

Amazon bought the rights to adapt the Lord of the Rights franchise into a TV series for $250 million, making the TV series one of the most expensive shows ever made. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, production was halted but is still expected to be released in 2021
