Live Action ‘Tom & Jerry’ Movie Gains More Cast Members

Apparently Hollywood has decided that the planet Earth is in dire need of more movies based on existing franchises, because work has already begun on a live-action Tom & Jerry movie, set to be headed by Shaft director Tim Story.

Cast members already on board with the movie include SNL’s Colin Jost, Michael Peña, Chloe Grace Moretz, and recently it’s been announced that Ken Jeong and Rob Delaney will be joining the cast. Jeong is well known for his roles in the Hangover movies and as Senor Chang on the show Community, while moviegoers will  probably recognize Rob Delaney from his appearance in Deadpool 2 as X-Force member Peter aka Sugar Bear. According to Deadline, the movie will take place inside the upscale Park Hotel and feature a hybrid of animation and live action scenarios. Peña and Mortez have been cast as hotel employees.

Created by the legendary William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse started appearing in animated shorts for MGM in the 1940’s, and the duo have become cartoon icons ever since. The Tom & Jerry cartoons often follow a simple formula: Tom chases after and tries to catch Jerry in a literal game of cat and mouse. During the chase the two partake in humorous slapstick, usually with Tom on the receiving end. Another notable feature of Tom & Jerry is that, with the exception of their screams, laughter and an occasionally a few lines, the two animals never speak. If this upcoming movie is going to maintain this characterization Tom and Jerry then it is safe to assume that none of these actors will be playing the titular duo.
