Laura Prepon Boards ‘The Girl on the Train’

As first reported by Deadline, Orange is the New Black‘s Laura Prepon is the latest actress to board DreamWorks’ The Girl on the Train.

The trio of female leads at the center of Tate Taylor’s (The Help) film has already been cast – Emily Blunt (Sicario), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation), and Haley Bennett (The Equalizer). The men in the lineup include Justin Theroux (Wanderlust), Luke Evans (The Hobbit Franchise) and Édgar Ramírez (Deliver Us from Evil). Allison Janney (Spy) and Lisa Kudrow (Neighbors) round out the ensemble cast.

The screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson (Men, Women, and Children) is an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name by Paula Hawkins. The story follows Rachel (Blunt), an alcoholic divorcee on her daily train commute. Her train passes by the home of Scott (Evans) and Megan (Bennett), a beautiful couple whom Rachel imagines as having the perfect life. Rachel’s ex-husband Tom (Theroux) and his new wife (Ferguson) also live closeby. Kudrow will play a former co-worker of Tom’s. Ramírez will play the character of Dr. Kamal Abdric, Megan’s psychiatrist. Prepon will play Rachel’s roommate and landlord, from whom Rachel tries to hide her alcoholism. After witnessing suspicious goings-on at the couple’s home, Rachel gets pulled into a murder mystery as things spiral out of control in her own life.

Prepon has most recently been seen in Netflix’s award-winning series Orange is the New Black, playing the character of Alex Vause. Her other TV credits include That 70’s Show, October Road, How I Met Your Mother, and the lead role in Are You There, Chelsea?

Marc Platt is producing the film, which will be executive produced by Jared LeBoff and Celia Costas. The Girl on the Train has been filming in NYC (the setting of the movie has been transplanted to New York from the book’s London setting) and will bow on October 7th.
