The hotly anticipated movie adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel The Girl on the Train got a release date for next year: October 7, 2016.
The film has a star-studded cast which includes Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Leto, Haley Bennett, Édgar Ramirez and now Justin Theroux (The Leftovers). Talks were in place to sign Chris Evans to the project, but issues with scheduling ultimately kept Evans from joining the cast which opened the door for Theroux to join the film. Theroux will play Blunt’s ex-husband.
The early October date is very reminiscent of the release date of a similar film- Gone Girl– back in 2014. The David Fincher film went on to become a box office hit and even earned an Oscar nominations for lead actress Rosamund Pike. DreamWorks hopes The Girl on the Train, which also focuses on a murder mystery, can follow a similar path to box office hit and possibly Oscar gold.
