To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a romantic comedy film inspired by Jenny Han’s trilogy of books. In the film, a motherless girl named Lara Jean leads a mundane life without romance, unnoticed, in high school, until five of her secret love letters to different boys is mailed to each of them.
Seeing how well received the film was on Netflix, being one of the platform’s most watched films of 2018, it makes sense for there to be a second follow-up film. On Twitter, Netflix confirmed the making of the second movie.
The plot for the second movie has not been announced yet but Johnson told Entertainment Tonight the sequel would follow the second novel’s story. It is unclear how that would play out in a movie because what happened in the first movie was not what happened in the first book. In the first book, Peter and Lara Jean do not end up together. It is only in the second book Lara Jean and Peter share the viral kiss in the hot tub.
Han’s other books in the trilogy are P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean. The writer for the screenplay is Sofia Alvarez. Susan Johnson is unconfirmed but she directed the first movie and she is poised to direct the second. Noah Centineo and Lana Condor, who channeled her eagerness through Instagram, will be the stars in the second installment as well. The actor to play John Ambrose McClaren, Peter’s rival for Lana’s heart, is not yet known. Neither was the release date shared.
