Kurt Russell in Talks to Join Cast of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’

With not many rumors in the last month or so about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, we finally get some news worth getting excited about.

2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy leaves us with a few cliffhangers, one of which is a mention that Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), is about to venture off to discover who his father is. Well his father may be found, as Kurt Russell is in the midst of being lassoed by Marvel in a decision that would possibly land him the role playing Father Quill–a creature who is part of an unknown alien species.

Although the deal is in very early stages and Russell has not even received an official offer, the studio, director James Gunn, and Russell himself all feel like it’s heading in the right direction. The exact plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is officially unknown, but will most likely revolve around Quill’s relationship with his father. Chris Pratt (Jurassic World), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), Dave Bautista (Spectre), Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel are among the actors who are returning to the project, while newcomer Pom Klementieff is coming aboard in an unknown role.

While we wait word on Russell’s arrival to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the veteran actor can be seen very shortly in prominent role in Quentin Tarantino’s eagerly anticipated The Hateful Eight which begins its theatrical run on Christmas Day. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is slated to begin principle photography in early 2016 and set to hit theaters May 5, 2017.
