Kristin Wiig Joins Disney Team on Live-Action Film About Cinderella’s Evil Stepsisters

Kristin Wiig and Annie Mumolo will be working together again after their recent work on Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, this time with Disney. The duo is currently working on screenplay for an untitled live-action Cinderella Evil Sisters film. According to Deadline, it is unclear if Wiig and Mumolo are also going to be starring in the film, as it is currently so early in development. Wiig and Mumolo have worked on many films together before, including being nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Bridesmaids. The upcoming film will be produced by Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell from Gloria Sanchez Productions.

The upcoming Disney film is a fairy tale musical comedy that is a live-action version of the classic Cinderella from the point of view of her notorious evil stepsisters. The film will focus on the sister’s early childhood memories through the marriage of their Cinderlla. The film will follow Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine as they struggle to continue their family’s legacy.

This film is one of many upcoming Disney films that will focus on the antagonist’s life, including the upcoming Cruella de Vil film Cruella starring Emma Stone, as well as a Beauty and the Beast prequel TV series for Disney+ with Luke Evans and Josh Gad.

Besides Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Wiig also starred as Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984 and will begin production this summer on MacGruber 2. Wiig will also be lending her voice for the next installment of the Despicable Me franchise.

Mumolo is known on the acting side for roles in Judd Apatow’s This Is Forty, the STX blockbuster Bad Moms and The Boss. She is currently working on multiple acting and writing projects and will next be seen in Queenpins with Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
